According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma (the god of creation) chose a land on earth where three rivers will meet and named it as King of all pilgrimage centres or ‘Tirth Raj’. And that place is Prayagraj located at the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Formerly known as Prayag (place of offerings), emperor Akbar named it as ‘Ilahabas’ (‘Garden of Allah’). It is the second oldest city in India and has been the center for several important events in the past and present as well. Interesting to know that the city of Prayagraj houses Nehru family's ancestral home Anand Bhawan that served as a headquarter during India’s freedom struggle. The city is also one of the venues to host the famous Kumbh Mela. Moreover, some of the eminent personalities and national leaders like Amitabh Bachchan, Jawaharlal Nehru and Dhyan Chand belong to this city of holy voyages.

How to reach

By Air: Bamrauli Airport is the nearest airport, located 12 km (30 to 45 minutes’ drive) away from the city. IndiGo now provides direct connectivity between Prayagraj and Pune & Bengaluru.
You can also reach Prayagraj by taking a flight to Varanasi or Lucknow and then travel by road using a cab or AC buses. By Train: Prayagraj Junction is among the major ones in Northern India. It has a well-connected railway network with the major Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai amongst other through various trains.

By Road: National Highway 2 passes through Prayagraj, and it is part of the Golden Quadrilateral. Hence, the city is well-connected with Delhi, Kolkata, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi and Patna.

Getting around: Cycle rickshaws are the most widely used and economical means of transportation in the city. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are the other popular modes to travel. Prayagraj also has a vast network of city buses connecting the city and its outskirts.
