Ayutthaya Travel Guide: How to spend a day in the former capital of Thailand?

Ayutthaya, the former capital city of Thailand displays a spectacle of ancient wonders. From the majestic temples to the mind-boggling statues and the calm cruise along the Chao Phraya River, it is a beautiful destination you must visit after booking flights to Thailand.

But why only Ayutthaya? Thailand has several equally beautiful cities. While this is true, this historical place flaunts architectural wonder with stunning archaeological ruins like Wat Chaiwatthanaram and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. You can rent a cycle and paddle across these ancient marvels and soak in the beauty of Ayutthaya.

If you plan for a trip to Ayutthaya today, you may get swayed by its cosy-looking cafes, and traditional, modern-infused guesthouses. And a lazy night cruise along the river that traverses some of the top attractions in Ayutthaya, illuminated by the artificial lights.

Interesting right? So, plan your trip to Ayutthaya in Thailand and explore this former capital’s attractions and more:

The best time to visit Ayutthaya

The best time to visit Ayutthaya is the same as in other parts of central and south Thailand. The cooler months are always the ideal time to scoop the history of this former capital without oozing your sweat. Below is the best season to visit Ayutthaya:

    • Winter: Thailand during winter is considered the best time to visit. Exploring the attractions and travelling across cities become great due to its cool and dry weather. A trip to Ayutthaya also becomes bearable. If you plan to book flights to Thailand to visit Ayutthaya, consider November to February.
    • Summer: Summer can be hot and humid unless you are travelling to north Thailand. You can consider coming here between March and May. But if you plan to visit other parts of the country, then travelling can be unbearable.
    • Monsoon: June through October is the rainy season in Thailand. Not suitable for visiting the beach or exploring outdoor attractions. However, it brings a little relief from the summer heat, yet the humidity lingers throughout the monsoon in Thailand.
