15 romantic places in Paris that will make you fall in love

There couldn't be a more perfect destination to live out your romantic dreams than the ‘city of love,’ Paris. There isn’t a place in Paris where lovers did not hold hands or serenade their beloved with poems. There is a warm, comforting, almost fuzzy, romantic atmosphere in Paris that makes everyone fall more deeply into the slumber of affection. Whether it is to have an intimate picnic in the luxurious gardens, explore the city with your loved one, or execute a proposal while on a charming cruise, Paris is your chance at a movie-like moment.

Given below are some romantic places to visit in Paris:

    1. Temple of Love

Temple of Love or Temple de L’amour was built on instructions from Marie Antoinette to mark her love for the then king. It stands on an island where two streams of a river converge. The columns made of white marble still retain their pristine glory. The green, luscious, and well-kept fields surrounding it are perfect for a stroll. Surrounded by water, it seems almost ethereal. Couples from all over the world visit this temple to propose or experience the glow of the neo-classical architecture that stands as a symbol of love. There is an amazing replica of the Bouchardan statue that is installed inside the temple.

    2. Luxembourg Gardens

Luxembourg Gardens or Jardin Du Luxembourg, currently owned by the French senate, is a magnificent romantic spot. It was commissioned by Marie de Medici who wanted a respite that reminded her of her home in Florence. The gardens are huge and with their charming trees, colourful blooming flowers, and sculptures. It is the perfect place to relax with several cafés and shaded areas to enjoy a wonderful view. This place has also been a prominent feature in literature and pop culture. This is where the main love interest from Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Miserables, first met. The Medici fountain with its elongated basin is also a must-see. It is located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

    3. Parc des Buttes Chaumont

Parc des Buttes Chaumont, locally known as the garden of love, has a tranquil environment. It features an enormous lake, waterfall, and green gardens. It has a miniature replica of the Temple of Vesta in Italy. The temple has been a significant feature in several romantic paintings. Also, it has a lovers’ spot with its fanciful air that makes one want to read Shelley and Byron to their lover.

    4. River Seine

A cruise on the River Seine is one of the best ways to spend an evening, sailing gently through the river with delicious food, wine, and a view of the glittering city. It is romantic and unforgettable. There are several options of cruises to choose from, like Bateaux-Mouches, which crosses the iconic monuments in Paris, or La Parisienne Champagne Cruise which is more intimate. You can also choose an offbeat cruise option and rent a boat on Canal Saint-Martin. It offers a picturesque and charming experience.

    5. Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe was built as a symbol of remembrance and respect to the martyrs who lost their lives in the French wars. It now stands as a significant memorial monument. The road leading to the structure is famous for its tree-lined promenade, shops, cafés, and theatres. It is a wonderful place to walk around with your partner and explore the delights the city has to offer.

    6. Wall of Love

The Wall Of Love, also called Le Mur des Je t’aime in French, is an art installation and a renowned lovers’ spot in Paris. It has the words ‘I love you’ written in 311 languages. It is not unusual to find a wall dedicated to love in Paris. This place has witnessed many proposals and declarations of love.

    7. Pont des Arts

Pont des Arts is a must-visit. Walking on the bridge, hand-in-hand with your loved one, gazing at the picturesque scenery and the hundreds of locks of love, forever bound on the bridge is nothing short of a movie moment. It had become an urban tradition in the 2000s for lovers to write their initials on a lock, put it on the bridge and throw the key into the River Seine. Though now banned, it still retains its name as the love-lock bridge.

    8. Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge was popular even before the iconic movie ‘Moulin Rouge’, but did you know that you can visit this famous cabaret in Paris for an entertaining cultural experience. It has retained its glamour and hype since being founded in 1889. It offers a delightful experience, with spectacular dance and drama performances, flamboyant costumes, and productions. Enjoy a glass of champagne with your loved one as you enjoy an extravagant evening. The Lido le Paris is another famous cabaret to view.

    9. Palais Garnier

Palais Garnier is a splendid historical monument. If you are familiar with ‘Phantom of the Opera’, then you must know about Palais Garnier Opera. It is a magnificent structure that hosts some of the best ballet and opera performances. The architecture is a mix of baroque and Renaissance styles with many sculptures of the Greek deities lining the high ceilings. It has a grand staircase, with an even grander auditorium. This place is guaranteed to leave you in awe with its impressive performances and lovely view.

    10. Le Clos Montmartre

Walking the streets of Le Clos Montmartre, the Secret Vineyard, makes for a delightful date. With its vintage houses, shops, winding lanes, and Sacre-Coeur, it is a perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon. This charming place also has a little vineyard that offers wine tastings and guided tours for a few weeks every year. Additionally, this area has several hidden treasures like Musee de Montmartre and Place Dalida.

    11. Musee de la vie Romantique

Musee de la vie Romantique is located in the 9th arrondissement. This villa was a favourite of many composers and artists like Chopin. It has been renovated into a museum with paintings from the Romanticism era and a charming courtyard café.

    12. Musee de Cluny

Musee de Cluny is a museum paying homage to medieval art, sculpture, and history. It has majestic Gothic-style architecture with foliate doorways and hexagonal staircases. Troubadours can be found playing songs of the Medieval era as a tribute to the collections.

    13. Musee National Gustave Moureau

Musee National Gustave Moureau is a museum set in a quaint apartment of the symbolist painter Gustave Moreau. There are two levels, both of which display his intricate and opulent paintings. The lower level has several family portraits and paintings of his unrequited love. The upper floor is a vast realm of the painter’s imagination, ranging from Greek mythology to beasts and plants. His famous psychedelic painting, ‘Jupiter et Semele,’ is also here.

    14. Musee Marmottan Monet

Musee Marmottan Monet houses the largest collection of Monet’s paintings and works, from palettes and photos to sketchbooks and journals. Located in a former hunting pavilion, the place is serene and almost representative of the themes in Monet’s paintings.

    15. Sainte Chapelle

Sainte Chapelle is a medieval chapel that used to serve as the King’s residence until the 14th century. Its majestic high-stained glass ceilings are worth admiration. The architecture is reminiscent of the medieval-Gothic style. It is a staggering attraction among lovers with its holy significance.

    Travel tips

    • On Sundays, most tourist places are usually closed. Hence, plan your day accordingly.
    • Make sure you have your travel insurance updated.
    • If you are travelling around Valentine’s Day, make sure to check out the Louvre and other museums that have love-themed decorations.
    • Always check the weather forecast beforehand to know what clothes to pack.
    • Public transport is safe and cheaper.
    • Keep an umbrella handy.
    • Book your tickets to famous attractions in advance to avoid long lines.
    • Check the timings of restaurants as they are not open all day long.

    How to reach?

    • By air: Charles de Gaulle International Airport is the most convenient airport to reach Paris. You can book an IndiGo flight to this airport from India.
    • By rail: You can go to and from Paris via the many railway stations. Eurostar operates daily and is connected to most countries in Europe like Portugal, Budapest, Germany, and Italy. You can also travel to other parts of France with the local rail lines.
    • By roads: The Eurolines offers a wide variety of buses that travel to different cities. You can book seats for travel on international buses like Megabus and Flixbus. If you decide to travel by car, then make sure you have the most current road map and use the expressways.

    Climate

Paris has a temperate climate with the lowest temperature being 2°C in the winter months. The winter months of December to February are quite chilly, with winds blowing in from the Atlantic. There are possibilities of snow for a few days. January is the coldest month of the year. Spring from March to May is also cold and you can expect a few days of snowfall, but the skies are mainly clear.

The summer months of June to August are pleasant and warm and suitable for outdoor activities. There are good chances of rain and thunderstorms during this time. The highest temperature rises to 26°C in the months of July and August. Autumn, on the other hand, has cloudy days and gloomy weather. There is seasonal rainfall too.

    Best time to travel

The best time to travel is from mid-May to September. The weather is pleasant and cool, and gardens are in full bloom. The days are longer, giving you more opportunities to explore around the city. And, most tourist attractions are open during this time.

The summer months also bring about celebrations, music festivals, and exhibitions that one can visit. However, due to the summer months being peak season for tourists, hotels are more expensive and it is difficult to find accommodation. If you want an intimate trip to Paris, then it is recommended to travel from mid-September to November.
