Dammam, the sixth largest city in Saudi Arabia is home to some of the most beautiful historical attractions and landmarks. It has evolved as a link between Saudi Arabia and the outer world for exporting the kingdom’s products and importing essential goods. With plenty of shopping malls and traditional craft stores selling all kinds of items, it is a delight for shopaholics.

Best time to visit:

Dammam witnesses pleasant weather during the months of December to March, making it the ideal time to plan your visit. If you wish to experience some festivities, plan your trip between July to October.

Summer – Summer in Dammam lasts from April to November, with August being the warmest month.

Monsoon – Dammam experiences some amount of rainfall throughout the year, February being the wettest month.

Winter – The coolest month in Dammam are December and January, the best time to plan you vacation.

Visa and Immigration requirement: If you are an Indian passport holder travelling to Saudi Arabia, you need to complete an online application form on the website - www.mofa.gov.sa, take a print of the form and submit it along with other necessary documents. You are required to pay the visa fee online, as per the new rule.

How to reach

By air: King Fahd International Airport serves Dammam, located about 20 km northwest of the city. Saudi-Bahraini Transport Company (SABTCO) operates safe and comfortable shuttle buses from the airport. Alternatively, you can also take a taxi from the airport.

IndiGo operates non-stop flights between Dammam and Mumbai.

By train: Dammam railway station is situated about 8 km from the city centre with trains connecting Dammam to Abqaiq, Hofuf and Riyadh.  

By bus: The SAPTCO buses ply between Dammam and Bahrain five times a day.

By road: Dammam is well linked by the kingdom's modern highway network. Buses and taxis are readily available to nearby places

Getting around: Taxis and "dubbabs" are the primary means of transportation to in the city.

Abu Nawas

It is one of the oldest Lebanese restaurants in town, serving Mediterranean, middle eastern and Lebanese cuisine. This place claims to serve the best fried chicken and the locals swear by its flavour.  You must also try their shawarmas, hummus and baked pasteries.

Heritage Village

Enjoy typical Saudi Arabian cuisine while learning about Saudi’s rich heritage.  It is home to a large number of artifacts and historical items. At the entrance, you will be welcomed by traditionally clothed servers eager to make you taste some delicious, strong black coffee. Remember to shake you cup three times if you have had enough, or the coffee will keep on coming!

Historians believe that Dammam got its name from the word - DAMDAMA, meaning the sound of drums that denote the beginning or the end of the hunting season. Until 1930s, Dammam was a small coastal community and was later developed as a port.

Dammam is a now one of Saudi Arabia’s chief ports for exporting petroleum and natural gas. King Abdul Aziz seaport is the only non-oil shipping port in the kingdom, equipped with jetties, a ship repair dock and a modern ship traffic control centre. You must check out this port on your visit to catch a glimpse of Dammam’s heritage.
