IndiGo, India's newest low-fare domestic carrier, today announced that it has received CAT-III approval from the DGCA to operate in fog conditions. With over 40% of its pilots already trained to operate in low visibility conditions, IndiGo will be able to maintain significantly better operations during the fog season this winter. Speaking on the upgraded capability,Mr. Bruce Ashby, President and CEO, IndiGo,said, "We had a plan to have CAT-III approval and over 40% of our pilots trained to operate in fog conditions by December 15th. We met that goal but we are doing more to ensure smooth operations during this fog season, with additional IndiGo pilots completing CAT-III training over the next three weeks. All of our brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft are already equipped with CAT-III equipment and CAT-III training is part of our standard pilot training. IndiGo is a low-cost airline, but we do not spare expense or effort when it comes to getting our flights out on time, he further added. When flights are delayed, we notify our passengers by SMS or a phone call at the contact number they provide when they make their reservations. For passengers affected by fog delays, IndiGo provides refreshments free of charge at the Delhi airport. Information on potential flight delays can be obtained from IndiGos website,www.goindigo.in, or from IndiGos call centre, (0) 99 10 38 38 38 or Toll free 1 800 180 38 38. Commenting on the details of CAT-III operations, Ashby said operating in CAT-III mode, trained IndiGo pilots can depart and arrive when visibility is 200 metres or more, as opposed to 500 metres in CAT-I, or normal operations. This capability will significantly minimize delays.
