Pune is widely known for education in India as it has many universities. However, it is also a city which make up the perfect tourist destination with modern and historical sites. So, while you are in Pune, these are the places you need to visit.
- Shivneri Fort: The Shivner Fort is a few hours' drive from Pune. It's one of the most important forts you can visit, as it was where Maratha Emperor Shivaji grew up. The fort stands some 300 feet high on a hill. There's a statue of Shivaji and his mother, Jijabai, and a big lake next to it.
- Aga Khan Palace: The Aga Khan palace is stunning with lovely gardens filled with flowers. In 1892, it was commissioned by Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III. The Aga Khan Palace, with its charming architecture and flowered gardens, is a popular tourist attraction. However, the original palace was also used for another purpose, especially in 1942 to 1944. The Aga Khan Palace was used as a prison where Mahatma Gandhi, his secretary Mahadev Bhai Desai and his wife Kasturba Gandhi were imprisoned.
- Rajgad Fort: The Rajgad fort is another beautiful, nature bound fortress just a few miles from Pune. For over a quarter of a century, the magnificent fort was Maratha emperors capital situated at 4,600 feet above sea level. To get to this fort today is considered as an adventure, since it requires a trek. Inside the complex, two temples and a wonderful view of the surrounding hills and valleys can be seen.
- Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum: This museum is not only home to a huge collection of art from all over India, but it has an even more extensive history. This three story building was dedicated to his son, Raja, who died tragically, by Dr. D.G. Kelkar, Director of the Museum. The Museum, which has been in existence since 1962, contains a collection of different artefacts from the fields of Archaeology, Musicology and Fine Art. The displays here include musical instruments, writing materials, wooden objects, paintings, textiles, coins, arms, ivory items, and sculptures.
- Empress Garden: There's one of the best gardens in Pune that you can come to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon at, this massive 39 acres garden. The layout of the garden is beautiful with decorated arches in between paths, across the garden, and a variety of flowers. In order to preserve the diversity of flowers in the region, the Empress Garden is managed by the AgriHorticultural Society.

About Chennai

- Kapaleeshwarar Temple: It is believed that, in the 7th century, King Pallava built a temple which has now become one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Chennai.
- National Museum: The National Museum features several art installations, some of which date back to the 11th century.
