About Kurnool

Kurnool, a small town in Andhra Pradesh, is a site with a lot of historical significance and lovely surroundings. The Gateway of Rayalaseema is another name for the city. The final Hindu King, Gopal Raju's, Palace is still standing in Kurnool along with the summer palace that the Kurnool kings built in the 16th century, and the remains of a Vijaynagar Empire Fort with ancient Persian and Arabic inscriptions. Kurnool is derived from the names Kandanavlu or Kandanlu, which were the names of a former crossing point across the Tungabhadra River where it was thought that the caravans oiled their tyres. The Palaeolithic-era Ketavaram rock paintings and the Belum Caves both have historical significance for the city.

Places to visit in Kurnool

  • Konda Reddy Fort: The most significant site to see in Kurnool is Konda Reddy Fort, also known as Kurnool Fort or Kondareddy Buruju, which is about 2 km from the railway station. The kings of the Vijayanagar Empire built it. The unassuming building previously held a tunnel that crossed the Tungabhadra River below, and it still has a grand watch tower that overlooks the city that built up around it.
  • Yaganti: The Sri Yaganti Swamy Temple, which is devoted to Lord Shiva and is the ideal place to experience Andhra Pradesh tourism, is a well-known tourist destination in Yaganti, in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple contains the Ardhanareeswara idol, which is a combined version of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. This statue is exquisite to look at and carved from a single piece of stone. The Agastya Pushkarni, where water flows year-round from the base of the hill, is another feature of the shrine.

The Great Indian Bustard and the Lesser Florican are two endangered species that can be spotted in Rollapadu, which was founded in 1988. Numerous birds and reptiles can be found living in the large wildlife reserve. The Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary also serves as a very example of how people and the environment can coexist; thanks to the surrounding Rollapadu hamlet, a man-made water reservoir conserved for the consumption of wildlife, and another reservoir for collecting rainfall.
  • Mantralayam: A sacred town in Andhra Pradesh called Mantralayam is located 250 miles from the state's capital, Hyderabad, and 74 km from Kurnool district.
