Indore is one of the oldest and most flourishing cities in Madhya Pradesh. With an area of 530 sq. km, it is also the largest among all the cities in the state. Rao Nandlal Chaudhary, a zamindar of the Malwa region, founded the city in the early 18th century. Later, Indore came under the rule of the Holkars, led by Maharaja Malhar Rao Holkar, the founder of the dynasty. Weather remains hot in summer, between March and June. During this period, temperatures may rise to 40 degrees Celsius. July marks the onset of monsoon, which lasts until September. The city receives moderate rainfall during this time. Winters (December to January) are cold and enjoyable with a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.
