Kolhapur – ‘Home to the Kolhapuri Sandal’
Kolhapur is a small city in Maharashtra, as small as to contain a population of half a million. Kolhapur was once known to be a princely state under a clan of the Maratha chieftains. Kolhapur has many lakes and water sources that feed the city, but it is majorly fed by the five tributaries of River Panchganga. The city’s haul comes from their world renowned Kolhapuri chappals and traditional art.

Jyotiba Temple, Mandir, Panhala Fort, New Palace, Temlabai Narsobawadi, Ranaka Lake, Mahalaxmi Temple, Bahubali and Siddhagiri Gramjivan Museum are some of the important tourist hotspots. The famous Shivaji University that was established over a century ago, is also located here in Kolhapur. The campus area is beautiful and is often roamed around by tourists.
