About Gwalior
Gwalior is the major city located in the northern region of Madhya Pradesh, which is the administrative headquarter of Gwalior district and Gwalior division. Prior to independence during the rule of Britishers, Gwalior remained as the princely state ruled by the Scindia’s. The city was founded by King Surajsen and historically it has been a prominent place as it has seen the rule of Tomars, Kachchhapaghatas, Mughals, Marathas, and Scindias. The city was also a prominent location during the 1857 revolt against the British. Apart from this, Gwalior has been a major tourist destination as it is home to some stunning architectural marvels which include forts, palaces, and temples.

- Gwalior Fort: Located on the top of a hill, Gwalior Fort is one of the most attractive places to visit in the city. The fort is known for its stunning architecture and offers magnificent views of the city. Built in the 3rd century, it has been under the rule of different kingdoms. The fort is a great example of amazing architecture. It houses three temples, six palaces, and several water tanks within its complex.
- Jai Vilas Palace: Jai Vilas Palace is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Gwalior. Built in 1874 by Jayaji Rao Scindia, this palace is the best example of European-style architecture. One of the unique things to see in the palace is its elongated dining table, which has a silver train with glass carriages circling around to serve food. It also has a museum with 35 rooms that includes an art gallery, the original shield of Rani Laxminai, and a collection of swords from the era of Mughal Kings Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.
- Gujari Mahal: Located within the premises of the Gwalior Fort, Gujari Mahal is a great example of architectural brilliance and houses an archeological museum. It was built by Tomar Rajput Man Singh for his wife Mrignayani. The museum gives insight about the rulers of the place and houses several antique items, dating back to 2nd century B.C., that include statues, weapons, sculptures, and terracotta items. The museum also houses a collection of Bagh Cave paintings.
- Gwalior Zoo: Established in 1922 by the royal family of Madhav Rao Scindia, Gwalior Zoo is located within the premises of Phool Bagh and has several rare species of animals. It is a great place for wildlife enthusiasts, as it is home to golden peasants, sambhars, bison, hyenas, spotted deer, black bucks, white tigers, crocodiles, and birds. The zoo has been designated as a protected site. The Phool Garden also houses a prayer hall, gurdwara, and mosque.
About Gwalior Airport
Also known as the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport (IATA - GWL), Gwalior Airport is located 10 km from the city in Maharajpur. The airport is a civil enclave within the premises of Maharajpur Air Force station and comes under the jurisdiction of Indian Air Force (IAF). Free trolleys, medical assistance, lounges, and gift shops are among the amenities available to passengers. There are also taxis and private cabs available at the airport.
