About Athens
Athens, the capital of Greece, was named after the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena. Feta cheese, olives, Olympics and all things related to the Greeks are associated with this beautiful place. Filled with vibrancy, the city of Athens is a true representation of history meeting modernisation. Athens has a lot of things to offer including history, architecture, cuisine, culture and art. Places to Visit:
- Acropolis :This hilltop citadel was built during the 15th century BC and it still is one of the dominating parts of Athens. And rightly so, the Acropolis sits on a pedestal and looks over the entire city, attracting tourists and visitors. It also houses the Acropolis Museum, once an ancient temple in Acropolis, which has now become the historical and cultural hub of the city.
- Plaka and Anafiotika:Two neighbourhoods in Athens, Plaka and Anafiotika have aesthetic coffee places, small houses, and cobbled streets. When you are here, the scent of Greek coffee and bakery goods will fill your heart with delight. An amazing place to spend your day, these cute little neighbourhoods will charm you forever!
- Temple of Hephaestus: Hephaestus, the Greek god of Blacksmiths, fires and volcanoes, was one of the 12 Olympians. This temple is dedicated to him and is one of the very few ancient temples that are preserved to date. If you are visiting this place, do not forget to visit the Stoa of Attalos and the Ancient Agora of Athens.
- Benaki Museum:Of course, there has to be a museum which houses all things related to the ancient Greek civilisation! The Benaki Museum is one of the places that has interested historians and tourists alike. Filled with collections and relics of ancient Greece, you can smell the Greek tradition in the air.
- Temple of Olympian Zeus: Zeus, the god of lightning, thunder and rain, was the mightiest god of all time. And true to his nature, this temple was also the greatest attraction of its time. Initially, there were hundreds of columns built, but now only fifteen of those stand upright. However, the beauty of this place remains untouched.
Athens Airport
Athens International Airport (ATH), is the largest international airport in Greece. It is also known as Eleftherios Venizelos. Several domestic as well as international flights arrive and depart from here every day. It is located at Attiki Odos, Spata 190 04, Greece, about 20 kilometres away from the city centre. A lot of amenities are available at the airport including shops and stores, lounges, boutiques, facilities for baby care, WiFi services, washrooms, baggage services, chapel, meeting rooms, medical facilities, currency exchange, and car rentals. It is also very easy to reach as it is accessible from all parts of the city via taxis and buses.
