What is Srinagar best known for?
Srinagar also known as ‘Heaven on Earth’ is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, rivers, deep valleys. The best-known places in Srinagar
- The Hazratbal Mosque: The mosque is referred to as Madinat , Asar – e – Sharif, and Dargah Sharif. Located on the west side of Dal Lake. Mosques made with white marble leave you spellbound. The mosque dates back to the 17th century manifesting Mughal and Kashmiri style of architecture.
- Chashme Shahi: It is a beautiful park situated at the royal height which captivates the tourists. The view of the valley looks very beautiful from here. There are waterfalls here, which attract tourists.
- Baramulla: A well-known traveller location found near Srinagar, Baramulla's appeal lies in its immaculate magnificence. Wrapped by the Himalayas on all sides and laying on the banks of the River Jhelum, this city has been invested with an unobtrusively picturesque scene.
- The Nishat Bagh: It is located on the east side of Dal lake. It is a 12 terraced garden which is the second-biggest Mughal garden in Kashmir after Shalimar Bagh. It was built in 1633 by Hasan Asaf Khan, father of Mumtaz Mahal. This Mughal Garden is the largest terraced garden having 12 terraces in the area. This garden is quite famous for the beautiful fountains, large lawns and beautiful flowers located here.
- Wular Lake: One of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia. When water is gathered in this lake water sports activities are conducted. It is a favourite picnic spot among locals and tourists and is one of the 26 wetlands in India.
- Dal Lake: It is spread over 26 square km situated amid beautiful green mountains and facilities like Shikara boat ride, houseboat and lake market make this place a favourite spot for kids and families.
- Shalimar Bagh: It was built in the year 1619 by the Mughal emperor Jahangir for his beloved wife Nur Jahan. This place is quite popular among tourists from all over the world. Shalimar Garden is an outcome of natural manure and man-made structures.
- Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden: It is the biggest tulip garden in Asia. The garden overlooks Dal Lake making panoramic views. It is settled in the Zabarwan mountain range.
- Salim Ali National Park: It is a beautiful mangrove habitat for many rare animals and birds. One can spot a leopard, flying fox, Kashmiri stag, Kingfisher, Ringdove, Swamp Franklin etc.
