Sharjah: Cultural capital of UAE
The city of Sharjah, which was declared the 'Arab World Cultural Capital' by UNESCO in 1998, is known for preserving its culture and heritage. Its Art Museum is world-famous and the impressive buildings in the Heritage Area are steeped in Emirati history. Away from the splendour and glamour of Dubai, the city offers many recreational and entertainment options, including well-maintained museums, beautiful churches, souks and numerous parks. The National History Museum and Desert Park Animal Husbandry are a major attraction for children. And, the Science Museum has interesting topics and exhibits.
Sharjah is also a shopper's paradise selling Arabic rugs, rugs, gold, silver and precious stones. Souk Al Arsa and Blue Souk on Corniche Road, the city's major markets, have over 600 powerful stores. Although rooted in Islamic traditions, it strikes a good balance between the city’s traditional origins and 21st century modern elements.
