What is Chandigarh known for?
Chandigarh has the distinction of being the first planned city of modern India. It was designed in 1950 by a French architect Le Corbusier. Chandigarh has many lakes, gardens, and boulevards all over the city. It is a beautiful example of architectural aesthetics of the mid 20th century comprising of sharp lines and large areas of concrete.

- Chandigarh’s most important tourist spot is the Capitol Complex. The complex is a signature of Corbusier’s architectural style. It has a lake surrounded by all the public buildings of the city like the High Court, the Secretariat and the Palace of Assembly. The Open Hand Monument of the Capitol Complex is also a favourite spot among tourists to click pictures.

- The Leisure Valley is a beautiful patch of green within a city of concrete. This is a 7km pathway with lakes and gardens placed along with it.
- The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is another unique puzzle piece to put together the city’s history. This garden hosts nearly 2000 sculptures built out of urban waste. The project was taken up in 1957 by a government official Nek Chand, who continued his work for the next 20 years.
