Mysuru
Famously known as the ‘City of Palaces’ and the ‘Ivory City’, Mysuru was originally said to be ruled by the Demon king Mahishasura and hence its age old name ‘Mahishuru’ which the British later termed Mysore. Later on, the Wadiyar dynasty began their prolonged rule and finally joined the Indian Republic in 1950. Recently, Mysore has been changed to its original Kannada name Mysuru, keeping with the traditional name of Mahishuru.
