What is Coimbatore best known for?
Coimbatore is also known as Kovai, the second-largest city in Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of Coimbatore District. Known as Manchester in southern India, it is also part of the Kongu Nadu region of Tamil Nadu. Including suburban areas, the population is 15 km. Located on the banks of the Noyyal River, Coimbatore is known for its mills, fabric, factories, engineering firms, automotive parts manufacturers, health care facilities, educational institutions, pleasant climate, travellers and its Kongu Tamil. Ooty and Valparai are close to the city making it a great tourist attraction. The reason for the city's name is that a king named Kovan ruled this area which is why the name Kovanpudur came to be and was named Koyambuthur, Koyamuthur, and Coimbatore. It is also believed that the City was named after the city's goddess ‘Koniamman’ - ‘Koniamman pudur’ who became Coimbatore.
