All about Chandigarh
Chandigarh is the capital city of Haryana and Punjab, located at the foothills of the Shivalik Range of the Himalayas. It is also one of the eight union territories of India. It is known that the city was designed by Swiss-French Architecture. Therefore, Chandigarh is famed for its design around the world. Chandigarh derives its name from ‘Chandi’, the Goddess of power. The Capitol Complex of Chandigarh is a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are some of the great festivals hosted in Chandigarh like Ram Leela, Mango Festival and Rose Festival.
Because of its geographical location, Chandigarh is famous for a multitude of sports and recreational facilities as well. It is believed that it was the first planned city and the dream city of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. The traces of Harappan culture were found during excavation work in the 1960s. The modern history of Chandigarh dates back to 1947 when the former province was divided into East and West Punjab under British rule.

- Sukhna Lake: Sukhna Lake is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Chandigarh for the variety of things to be done here. Some of the best things to do here are boating, walking and bird watching.
- Government Museum and Art Gallery: The Government Museum and Art Gallery is a famous tourist attraction because of the display of natural history and various artefacts.
- Cactus Garden: The Cactus Garden displays a striking variation in the species of cactus found here.
- The Capitol: The Capitol is an architectural marvel in Chandigarh. It is also listed as a World Heritage Site.
- Terraced Garden: It is one of the many gardens in Chandigarh hosting musical fountains and a Chrysanthemum show in December.
- ISKCON Chandigarh: Devoted to the Hindu Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha, it is one of the many chain temples boasting peace and tranquillity.
- Pinjore Garden: It is also known as Yadavindra Garden, built by a Nawab under the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The garden displays the typical style of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture.
- International Doll Museum: It has a large collection of dolls and puppets from over 25 different countries. It was established in 1985 and is managed by the Child Welfare Council of India.
- Terraced Garden: It is located in Sector 33 of the city and claims to have a variety of colourful and vibrant flowers.
- Aqua Village: Tourists can enjoy water riding and is one of the favourite places.
