About Agartala
Situated on the banks of River Haora, Agartala is the second largest city in Northeast India, not just its state. It is located in Tripura and serves as its capital. Things to do in Agartala
Ujjayanta Palace that served as the royal abode to Tripura kings is one of the main tourist attractions in Agartala. It now operates as a museum. It is also suggested to visit the marvellous Jagannath temple to seek the blessings of the Hindu gods - Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra. It is with them and their blessings that we celebrate ‘Rath Yatra’. Shopping for souvenirs is convenient at Metro Bazaar, Jagat Bazaar or Battala market. The special delicacies of the place - mui borok, wahan mosdeng and chikhvi - are also a must try.
Airport in Agartala
The airport in Agartala was named after Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Debbarman who got it constructed in 1942. He was the ruling king of Tripura back then. Administered by the Airports Authority of India, Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has undergone several upgrades since then. It is located at a distance of 12 km from the main city.
