Malta: The Island Country
The mesmerising Mediterranean Sea surrounds this beautiful island country, Malta, this strategically important group of islands with a long history. The Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Sicilians, Swabians, Aragonese, Hospitallers, French, and British influenced Maltese society. Malta comprises three islands - Malta, Gozo, and Comini. And all these islands have picturesque sights that the tourists will love exploring.
Malta experiences a typical Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers, warm and intermittent rainy autumns, and brief, chilly winters with sufficient rainfall. If the travellers want to explore the religious festivals and colourful concerts, they can visit during summer. Otherwise, spring and autumn would be the best time.
Places to visit in Malta
Malta is filled with multiple tourist spots like distinctive temples, stone structures, and mediaeval towns, all within the land surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. Travellers can enjoy sightseeing and various water sports and relax on the beach under palm trees. Malta is ideal for any traveller who wants a time out from their hectic schedule.
- Valletta: The grand capital of the Republic of Malta is Valletta. The King of Spain gave the Maltese Islands to the Knights of Malta in 1530. The major attractions of this capital city are its palaces, artistic churches, and museums. A must-see location is the enormous Grandmaster's Palace, previously the Knights of Malta's residence. Another popular location is the St John's Co-Cathedral, a Roman Catholic cathedral constructed by Saint John the Baptist. An art and history fanatic should take a walking tour to the National Museum of Archaeology, as this museum specialises in prehistoric objects and cultural landscapes from Europe.
- Island of Gozo: This little island is amazing for unwinding for a few days or weeks, thanks to its peaceful towns and immaculate beaches. The island is home to many cultural landmarks, including the most significant archaeological site in the Maltese Islands, the Ggantija Temples, which date back to roughly 3500 BC, a luxurious coastal resort called Marsalforn, and the fortified mediaeval city of Victoria can be enjoyed while exploring.
- Mdina: This Mediaeval hilltop town will give the experience of a fairytale, and it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you can witness car-free streets and old sandstone buildings. St. Paul's Cathedral is one of the top attractions in this town. It is a magnificent Baroque structure created by Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafa. You may view an actual mediaeval palace furnished in the traditional form at the Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum. In addition, the Palazzo Falson showcases exquisite artwork, antiques, Oriental carpets, and a collection of antiquated coins.
- Tarxien Temples: The largest and best-preserved prehistoric site in Malta is the Tarxien Temples, which comprise four megalithic complexes recognised by UNESCO. Excellent replicas of the stone sculptures and reliefs discovered here can be seen on the site, and the originals are on show at the National Museum of Archeology in Valletta.
- Blue Lagoon: Malta's Blue Lagoon is a little slice of heaven. Because the water is temperate, there are no waves, and the shallow end suits kids. This large lagoon appears to be a gigantic swimming pool that is perfect for swimming, splashing around, or floating on inflatable tubes and is roped off to boats. Rent a lounge chair or an umbrella and order some ice cream, cool beverages, and snacks to enjoy while you relax.
- Mellieha: Mellieha is a welcoming coastal town amid the beautiful landscape of northwest Malta. Mellieha Beach is the longest stretch of sandy shore on the Maltese Islands, with a one-and-a-half km shoreline of beautiful white sand. Since Mellieha Bay has relatively moderate depth, you can stand in it even far from the shore. Children can safely swim or wade in calm waters without undercurrents.
