The State of Washington is probably the most popular in The United States of America. Having a keen interest in fine arts, technology, and culture, the state is home to several esteemed institutions. Some of the notable institutions based here are the Seattle Art Museum, The Thomas Burke Memorial Washington State Museum, the Washington State Library, the Pacific Science Centre, and the Museum of History among others. A major hub for politics, Washington is by far the most elite state that immediately comes to mind when one thinks of the USA.
Places to visit in Washington
- Museum of Pop Culture : Based in Seattle, the Museum of Culture fondly referred to as MoPOP is a widely recognised non-profit museum representing contemporary pop culture. Not very old and thus a classic representation of the current pop scene, the museum was founded in 2000 by the co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen. Having numerous exhibits under its umbrella, MoPOP is an upscale building housing several galleries, auditoriums and theatres that are one of a kind in the whole world.
- Olympic National Park :One of the prime Washington landmarks is the massive Olympic National Park which is home to a variety of ecosystems and vegetation of different types. Declared by UNESCO as an International Biosphere Reserve, the park is also listed as a World Heritage Site. Dedicated to the benefit and enjoyment of Washington’s residents, the park provides an open habitat for a variety of animals and some fascinating species of birds.
- Seattle : One of the most popular cities in Washington is the seaport city of Seattle. The state’s largest metropolis, Seattle is as culturally rich as it is diverse. Significantly defined by its musical history, the city is the birthplace of some of the most popular jazz and rock bands. A regional centre of performing arts, it is a rich hub of theatres and performance halls with the Seattle International Film Festival being a mega-annual affair.
- San Juan Islands : An archipelago of islands, the San Juan Islands are a major tourist attraction in the State of Washington. Home to a variety of rare flora and fauna, the islands are a serene getaway mostly consisting of hilly terrain with some valleys and flat areas in between. Sea kayaking and orca whale watching are primary fun activities undertaken here by both boat and air tours. While the number of islands here ranges in the hundreds, only a few of them are inhabited with just four being widely accessed via public ferries - San Juan, Orcas, Lopez, and Shaw.
- Space Needle : An observation tower in the Seattle city of Washington, Space Needle is considered to be an iconic landmark and is amongst the tallest structures in the United States of America. The structure is a common sight in feature films and TV shows and is also a primary ground for Base Jumping which involves parachutists leaping from the building. It houses an observation deck that completes one rotation in 45 minutes, providing a wholesome view of the city.

The State of Washington has three major airports - Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Located at a distance of about 42 km from the city centre, the airport is widely connected to all major roads in the state.
