Places to visit in Hyderabad
- Chowmahalla Palace: Formerly the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad, The Chowmahalla Palace stretches across 40 acres and comprises elegant and rich interiors. Inspired by Tehran’s Shah Iran Palace, the monument has detailed architecture, along with beautiful gardens and opulent fountains. This palace gives us an insight into the regal and extravagant taste of the rulers.
- Purani Haveli :Purani Haveli, also known as Haveli Khadeem, refers to old quarters that were built to serve as the residence of the Prime Minister of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty, Mir Momen. The haveli is noted for its Indo-Western architecture and its museum. The pristine white walls and mosaic floors of the haveli are reminiscent of royal vibes and an old-world charm.
- Qutub Shahi Tombs : The Qutub Shahi Tombs are positioned against the picturesque backdrop of the Ibrahim Bagh. The tombs are a majestic display of Hindu, Persian, and Pathan architecture and are dedicated to the seven kings who ruled Golconda for 170 years. The tombs are the final resting place of the rulers who founded the dynasty in Hyderabad.
- Laad Bazaar:The Laad bazaar is located close to the iconic Charminar and is one of the busiest places in Hyderabad, populated by tourists and residents alike. The bazaar is famous for its bangle and pearl collection along with dresses, cosmetics, and handbags. A street shopper’s paradise, it is bustling with tourists looking to buy souvenirs to take back as gifts.
- Salar Jung Museum:The museum is located in the old Hyderabad city along with other popular monuments like Mecca Masjid, Charminar, and State Central Library. Salar Jung Museum is one of the top places to visit when in Hyderabad. The museum houses 38 galleries that are spread over three buildings displaying artefacts that mirror human evolution right from the 2nd century BC to the early 20th century AD.
Hyderabad Airport
Hyderabad Airport popularly known as the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (IATA: HYD), is situated in Shamshabad, about 24 km south of Hyderabad. The airport is named in honour of the former Prime Minister of India and ranks amongst the biggest airports in the country. The airport has a cargo terminal, an integrated passenger terminal and two runways. Baby care rooms, shops and dining restaurants, information desks, lounges, medical services, pharmacy, currency exchange, and ATMs are some of the available passenger facilities at the airport. Taxis, buses, and trains are readily available to take you to and from the airport.
