About Kochi
Ever since the 14th century, Kochi has come to be known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, as it was the main port not only of Kerala but of the entire Indian peninsula. Its beauty mainly lies in its picturesque mixed landscapes of hilly areas, small islands, and backwaters. Further, Kochi could be said to be a cocktail of old charm and contemporary ideas that blend perfectly together.
Places to visit in Kochi
- Marine Drive: It happens to be the most popular tourist attraction in Kochi. The magnificent view of the backwaters and the Kochi harbour with the twinkling lights of the many buildings on the coast gives a magical element to it. Several boat jetties are available along the way. At night the entire area is rejuvenated when the Rainbow Bridge comes to life with vibrant lights.
- Cherai Beach: Located on the north end of Vypin Island, it is considered to be a swimmer's paradise. A combination of both the sea and the backwaters makes it the most visited beach in Kerala. The place is made charming by the Chinese fishing nets and thick coconut groves that adorn the waterfronts and the entire beach. It is also a haven for shell collectors as the beach is dotted with many unique seashells.
- Kerala Folklore Museum: It is the only architectural museum in Kerala ideal for exploring the folklore culture. The varied collection of artefacts in this museum includes ancient sculptures, Stone Age objects, antique jewellery, old paintings, musical instruments, tribal masks, and much more.
- Jew Town: Situated at Mattancherry in Fort Kochi, it is a perfect spot for antique hunters. Many pristine and historically relevant artefacts can be found here. The speciality of these artefacts is Jewish designs with interesting stories behind them. The pastel-coloured houses of the charming Portuguese neighbourhood are unforgettable.
