Places to visit in Birmingham
- Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery: The museum opened in 1885 and houses some of the rarest pre-Raphaelite works including artworks created by painters between the 17th to 19th centuries. The museum has interesting displays that explain the history of the city and one can also find archaeological exhibits that can be traced back to the Stone Age. The relics that are on display at this museum include coins from ancient times through to the Middle Ages. There are also antiquities from ancient Cyprus, Egypt, India, and Central Asia.
- Birmingham Botanical Gardens: The Botanical Gardens are spread over 15 acres of land and one can see innumerable species which include tropical birds and bonsai trees. The garden houses more than 7,000 unique plants and it is also home to the British national bonsai collection. One of the most noted examples is the Omiya tree which is a 250-year-old Juniperus Chinensis.
- National Sea Life Centre: This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Birmingham because it is home to more than 60 exhibits that are linked with marine life. Tourists can take the underwater tunnel through which they can explore what it is like to view life under the sea ranging from coral reefs to giant sea turtles. There are also adorable and fun programs on penguins for kids.
- St. Philip’s Cathedral: The Cathedral was established in 1715 as a parish church and it was then changed in 1905 to its current status. The cathedral is steeped in history and it is a Grade I recorded structure.
- Cadbury World: Cadbury World is one of the best places to visit in Birmingham. Visitors get to learn about the history of chocolates starting with the Mayan civilisation and are also given a tour of the manufacturing process. Cadbury World also has the world’s largest chocolate shop where you can shop for sweet treats.

Birmingham International Airport (IATA: BHX), also referred to as Birmingham Airport, is the major airport serving the city. The airport lies in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, 13 km from the city centre. The airport is well equipped with public transport like shuttle buses, trains, and cabs.
